Dear Parents
We have looked carefully at the forecasts for both tonight and tomorrow morning and have also taken advice from Highways and the Met Office. The news on the weather is not promising and so therefore we have made the decision to close the school for the whole day, tomorrow, Monday 19 March.
The risks of travel, for many families and staff, outweigh the benefits of opening and it is highly unlikely that we will be able to get enough staff into school on time, if at all.
If the forecasts are correct we would expect the school to be open as usual on Tuesday.
We apologise for any inconvenience and hope that this notice gives you time to make alternative arrangements.
Kind regards
Steven Badcott

Uplowman C of E Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff to share this commitment.

Headteacher Welcome

Uplowman Church of England Primary is a charming and thriving village school located in the beautiful countryside of rural Devon, yet only minutes from the M5. Uplowman Church of England Primary School is a welcoming, happy Christian community. Its positive ethos with its strong focus on inclusion, ensures that all children feel valued and enjoy school. (Outstanding SIAS Inspection March 2013).

Staff foster a culture which open, warm and welcoming (Ofsted June 2017)

The school, as part of the Halberton & Uplowman Federation, has a very supportive Governing Body and an active PTFA who raise funds each year and hold social events which contribute towards our strong community feel.

We are proud of our warm and friendly family atmosphere where every child is cherished. This truly supportive environment is conducive to happy and successful learning and both staff and children have high expectations of work, behaviour, good manners and consideration for all in our school community. We are very proud of our Church School values of Compassion, Forgiveness, Hope, Respect & Trust and we expect all stakeholders to live and cherish these values.

Staff work incredibly hard to ensure that children progress well and as Ofsted noted  in June 2017 ‘Pupils’ achievement has been strong over time as a result of the good quality of teaching and pastoral provision. Pupils have consistently attained highly and made progress at least in line with, and often better than, the national average in their various subjects.'  Staff care diligently for every child and ensure that Uplowman is a real safe haven for children to learn and prosper in.

Take a look for yourself at our developing website, but perhaps even more importantly come and visit us and experience an insight into our school for yourself. We hope to welcome you soon.

Our Vision

In our school, our vision is to create a safe and happy environment - a Haven of Hope, where every child matters as a Child of God - where all learners are emboldened by the positive interactions and relationships that underpin their experiences. Secure boundaries contribute to a comforting sense of well being where all are trusted, treated with compassion, empathy and kindness and are loved.

Our valued learners feel happy and safe; confident enough to take risks and not afraid to fail because their positive attitude to learning ensures they are aspirational and motivated enough to learn from their mistakes. They enjoy rich and varied learning experiences that contribute to their hunger to be the best that they can be.
